With its generally well-protected semicircle of cliffs sheltering the entrance to the marina, Noyo Bay is a good place for adventurous beginners and aspiring intermediates to gain some exposure to ocean conditions with safe harbor nearby. Beyond the shelter of the bay, experienced paddlers will find lots of chutes and channels, and fun, technical rock gardens to play around on.
Although the caving possibilities here are not on par with what’s found further south around Mendocino, there are a couple of challenging tunnel complexes to explore in the cliffs before Soldier Point that make a trip here worth the effort. On calm days the exposed, 5-mile maze of rocks and stacks down to Caspar is a fun challenge for experienced rock-garden paddlers.
