Sinuous and serpentine with a jungle of vegetation, the Beaverhead meanders through rock canyons and broad valleys. High interest for Lewis and Clark aficionados. Excellent birdwatching or waterfowl hunting in season north of Dillon.
The Beaverhead River flows for only 43 air miles, but if the Corps of Engineers ever decided to straighten it (and we’re certainly not recommending it), the Beaverhead probably would stretch halfway across Montana. Sinuous and serpentine, from the air it looks like a swimming snake.
