This pleasant trip can include exploring Fort Point State Park on foot and a picnic. Fort Point State Park is a well-maintained site at the eastern end of Cape Jellison adjacent to Stockton Springs. This makes a particularly good trip with kids, because you can keep the paddling legs short to leave lots of picnic and running-around time on land if needed. There are picnic tables and pit toilets close to a large pier on the north side of the point where you can land a sea kayak. There’s plenty of room to pull boats up and out of the weather, and this is a fairly secure area to leave the boats for an afternoon of hiking. Please note that the cliffs along Fort Point below the lighthouse are steep and unguarded in some areas.

Nice panoramic view of the Penobscot river opening into the bay. Plenty of picinic areas including tables and BBQ grills.
