The Sheepscot River is a pastoral setting with homes dotting the shoreline on both sides, and some nice contour to the riverbanks south of Hilton Point. You can paddle as far down the river as you feel comfortable, keeping an eye out for ospreys, blue herons, and a wide variety of shorebirds. The wooded areas along the river are active with passerine species during the spring and early summer. An occasional harbor seal will venture upriver, though these animals are far more numerous farther south on the ledges around Ram Island by Isle of Springs.
