Felton Lake is a small, very attractive pond perched on the edge of October Mountain overlooking the Housatonic valley. The lake sits in a hollow formed of boulders and forested hills that gently slope to the shore. The water is contained by a dam on the pond’s southwest side, which funnels the overflow beneath a very attractive mortared stone bridge arching over the noisy brook. Felton Lake is a pretty place, with many shallow areas replete with varied marginal and emergent vegetation as well as larger areas of open water. It is perfect for those who desire a day of drifting about, picnicking on the shore, and maybe dipping a fishing line into the still water. During much of the year you will probably see and hear folks on ATVs in the woods, and the grassy area near the dam is a favorite place for some to park and have lunch. That still leaves the northeast shore and lots of privacy, if that is what you desire. Felton Lake is at 1,570 feet elevation and is entirely within October Mountain State Forest.
