"Pretty" is the operative word for Marion. From its quaint, well-heeled streets to its precious tree-lined coves, kayakers can find attractive settings wherever they wander. The highlight of the trip is a visit to Bird Island and its lighthouse, just a half-mile from the mouth of the harbor. Visit in fall when yachtsmen “ are back to work and terns have finished nesting. Through September and October, Buzzards Bay waters stay reasonably warm, and kayakers can have the whole lovely place to themselves. Attractions: Bird Island (lighthouse and beach), protected harbor, salt marsh, bird-watching, island beaches, swimming.

This is a great trip for early in the day. THe harbor is quiet and calm and you can do the Bird Island tour without too much chop. Open water crossing to Bird Island and to either of the extensions can be busy and bouncy. Need to keep your eyes open. This is a great paddle!
