This trip is best on weekdays or during the off-season due to the chronic shortage of nonresident parking in Manchester. Manchester-by-the-Sea sits on a lovely stretch of coastline, but the town does its best to reserve this treasure for those lucky enough to live there. Determined kayakers can, nevertheless, arrive at Manchester Harbor early enough to nab one of the twenty or so nonresident parking places at Masconomo Park. Off-season kayaking is also recommended for the unusual serenity you’ll find at this normally busy harbor. Attractions: Large island for picnicking and hiking; scenic harbor; protected launching and landing sites.
