From quaint Rockport Harbor to rocky, wind-blasted islands, this trip explores the diversity and rugged beauty of Cape Ann. The moderately challenging route includes paddling across Sandy Bay in Rockport to visit Thatcher and Milk islands. Unfortunately, in 1995 a storm destroyed the landing ramp on Thatcher Island, so until repairs are completed, an easy landing is possible only on Milk. Once Thatcher’s ramp is rebuilt, kayakers will again have the opportunity to easily explore and camp on this fascinating island, whose twin towers have been a Cape Ann landmark for more than 200 years. Since this paddle is entirely in open water, monitor wind, weather and sea conditions carefully before departing. Attractions: Three scenic islands; historic lighthouses; Rockport Harbor.

We left from Bearskin Neck area in Rockport past Motif #1 and paddled easily over to Thatcher's Island. There is a nice launch to use once there, and you can go up one of the two lighthouses. Camping is also allowed... no dogs or fires though. The original keeper's house burned down from a fire decades ago.
