These bodies of water lie in the heart of northern Maine canoe country. While more famous for river canoeing (especially the Allagash), this area also offers superb lake and pond canoeing. Caucomgomoc Lake provides a good starting point, but be aware that this large lake, with its northwest-southeast orientation, often suffers from strong winds and rough water; be ready to alter your plans or hold over for a day or two if you plan to paddle here. Prominent fish species: Caucomgomoc: salmon, lake trout, brook trout, and white perch. Round Pond, Dagget Pond, Poland Pond: brook trout, white perch, and yellow perch.
