Great Pond is the site of the Dow Pines Air Force Recreation Area, but when we paddled here there were few visitors in evidence. We saw one other boat, but most of the time we paddled in complete solitude. The best time to paddle here is in the evening or very early morning, especially up the Dead Stream inlet at the west end of the lake. Prominent fish species: brown trout, smallmouth bass, yellow perch, and chain pickerel; brook trout in the streams.
