The Housatonic River is a deservedly popular place to paddle. It meanders through the eponymous valley, loaded with wildlife, backed to the east by the scenic October Mountain State Forest. Look for deer,otter, muskrat, beaver, herons and egrets, ducks and geese. We would not bring children here, for the reasons cited below.
