This trip reaches two of the best fishing lakes in the BWCAW as well as one of the most scenic rivers. The Isabella River has good fishing for walleye and northern pike, and the Isabella River Valley offers excellent moose, deer, beaver, and bald eagle photographing opportunities. The addling is not strenuous, and the portages aren’t rugged. Take heart, though. Only shorter portages lie upstream. Continue up the Isabella River to Quadga Lake and set up camp. The mouth of the Little Isabella River is a landmark just downstream from the 70-rod Quadga Lake Portage. Quadga Lake covers 248 acres and has a maximum depth of 35 feet. It has four campsites and above average fishing for northern pike and walleyes.
