This trip has easy access, both lake and river paddling, scenic rapids and waterfalls, good fishing for brook trout and splake, and, mostly, easy portages. This trip starts with an easy access into Farm Lake, which is 5 miles east of Ely. Farm Lake covers over 1,300 acres, and almost 2 miles of paddling are required to reach the mouth of the North Kawishiwi River. Farm Lake offers good fishing for walleyes, but motors are allowed and most paddlers hasten to reach the BWCAW boundary where only paddling is legal.
