This rugged trip starts out easy with a lengthy paddle across part of Vermilion Lake and through gigantic Trout Lake to Little Trout Lake. After a long portage you’ll encounter the Little Indian Sioux River, and follow it to a series of lakes connected by creeks, rivers, or challenging portages. Finally, only Pine Lake and one portage remain to return you to Trout Lake. Fishing can be productive on several lakes, and moose, deer, and smaller mammals are often seen. Most of the lakes are picturesque wilderness gems with clean blue water and wooded shorelines. The put in and the take out will probably be crowded, but between those points people will be quite scarce.
