I left from the Grand Island Ferry Launch and paddled 5 miles directly to Wood Island on the west side of Grand Island. I made a complete loop around CW and hiked on the island for a bit. I then made the 2 mile crossing from the southern tip of Wood Island due East to Grand Island. I looped Grand Island CW, cutting across some bay areas for time, and headed back for the car. I did this in one day but an overnight is recommended. The scenery is unbelievable and I got close up to a bald eagle. Cool!

If you are looking for a place to get away, this is the place you want to go. There was one other person there with his dog that was getting on the boat to go backpacking. You can stay on the Island for a $2 donation and stay for as long you like. Pictured rocks is so close it worth taking a long weekend and checking out the sites.
The few people that live on the Island are friendly and informative about the weather and conditons you be embarking on in your travels.
