Unlike the high sandstone cliffs of Miners Castle, the coast between Grand Marais and the Hurricane River consists of sand beaches and the huge dune bluffs of the Grand Sable Dunes. Other points of interest include a waterfall just a short hike from the lake and a historic lighthouse at Au Sable Point. The harbor of Grand Marais is also the site of the largest annual sea kayak symposium in the Midwest.
