Port Austin is a popular resort area with beautiful sand beaches and Point aux Barques, a sandstone headland that has sea caves and a sea stack. About 1.5 miles off the headland is the Port Austin Shoal Light, an interesting lighthouse on an offshore crib that advanced paddlers may want to add to the route. The route along the coast from Grindstone City passes a variety of shoreline, with cliffs, cobblestone beaches, and sand beach. To the east of Grindstone City—about 3.5 miles on Highway 25—is the Point aux Barques Lighthouse and Museum, which is worth checking out as a sidetrip when running the shuttle to Grindstone City.
