For much of its length, the Yellow Medicine River flows slowly over the relatively flat farmland and prairie of southwestern Minnesota. Several miles past Hanley Falls, the pace picks up as the land slopes toward the Minnesota River. As the Yellow Medicine races to meet the larger stream, it passes frequently through short, steep, bouldery rapids. You'll need to dodge boulders and trains of standing waves. High, steep bluffs flank the river.
