The Watonwan provides a good route for watching wildlife and finding wooded seclusion in a region that otherwise is heavily farmed. Bluffs of 50 to 75 feet, some nearly vertical, flank the river. The river flows quickly at times, but the only real rapids are class I stretches near the confluence with the Blue Earth River.
