The crystalline North, Middle, and South branches of the Whitewater slide through riffles and cut against limestone cliffs. Excellent trout streams, they are generally too small for canoeing. Near the town of Elba they join. From there downstream to the Mississippi, the Whitewater provides plenty of depth for a float trip. Watch for deadfalls and remnants of an old rock weir downstream from County Route 30.
