Easy rapids, stunning scenery, several campsites, and good fishing make this stretch of the Root an excellent route for a day trip or overnight. The river here is small; paddling is best when water is fairly high. Tread carefully when running the remains of an old dam about 6 miles below the County Route 21 bridge.

The first campsite was competely erroded away, and we stayed on a sand bar. The 3 campsite on the route was beautiful! The upper half of the route near Charfield is very rocky and low. If the water had been down another 6 inches, we would have been portaging. After the half way mark, we got some deep water, and a few places where the water was fast. Lovely area for birds. Saw many bald and golden eagles.
