Flowing through some of the wildest country in central Minnesota, the middle reaches of the St. Croix make for excellent overnight camping. Class I and class II rapids quicken the pace. This section also provides good fishing. Beginners will want to be careful to avoid spills in the long stretch of rapids near the confluence with the Kettle River. Lyme disease, a tick-borne disease, is relative common in east- central Minnesota, including the St. Croix Valley. Learn to recognize the deer tick (smaller, redder, and more almond shaped than the wood tick), and don't let them get a hold.
