Flowing form its source, Mille Lacs Lake, the Rum River slowly winds through a series of shallow lakes. Much of th4e riverbank is wooded, though the massive pines of the watershed disappeared in the logging heyday of the nineteenth century. The river is lovely and provides good fishing for walleye and northern pike, and often spectacular angling for small-mouth bass, which thrive in the crayfish-filled riffles and rocky pools.
