The current speeds up and the Crow Wing races through several easy rapids - not exactly whitewater, but a fun ride, especially for novice paddlers. Despite the presence of these few rapids, the river remains more placid than wild and continues to flow with its characteristic clarity. The bed is mostly sandy and loaded with freshwater mussels. The river is rarely too low to run. Hold on to your paddle — the Crow Wing picks up the pace! Actually, the river flirts with the wild side only briefly as it runs through several swift, bouldery stretches that rate class I.
