The upper Crow wing scarcely resembles a river at all, but runs through a series of lakes. The lakes and short connecting streams provide good fishing. Eleven lakes, joined by short sections of stream, form the upper Crow Wing River. The stream segments connecting the first four lakes are short and very small, providing little of interest to canoeists looking to paddle a moving stream. The stretch from Eleventh to Tenth is not passable.
