Short stretches of the Mississippi join large lakes. The river segments make pleasant day trips, especially for watching wildlife. This section is more lake than river. The lakes are pretty and provide excellent fishing for walleyes, northern pike, muskies, and crappies. But they are tedious to cross by canoe and can be dangerous when the wind comes up. Most canoeists will prefer to stick to the river segments, which run between the lakes.
