With swift water and several easy rapids, this section of the Red Lake River is the best bet for paddlers in the Red River Valley. The river head up in giant Lower Red Lake and flows slowly through the bog country of north-central Minnesota, a land where soils are perpetually waterlogged and plant communities are dominated by runty black spruce, sphagnum moss, and various sedges.
