Turkey Creek descends from MO 72 to its junction with the St. Francis River upstream of the Silver Mine Dam. Only 2.5 miles long, the river is flat for the first 1.25 miles and the last 0.6 mile. In between, this little ripsnorter is anything but. It drops 100 feet in 0.75 mile. It is the steepest known creek run in Missouri. When water levels are right (a local flash-flood watch is a clue), it offers five to six class III–IV rapids.
