Guide to Sea Kayaking in North Carolina

Masonboro Island is one of the components of the North Carolina National Estuarine Research Reserve System in North Carolina. The NCNERRS encourages researchers from universities and government laboratories to use the sites for their studies in an effort to learn more about estuaries.

This pristine island is sandwiched between two highly developed beaches: Wrightsville Beach to the north and Carolina Beach to the south. Luckily, it is cut off from these areas by Masonboro Inlet to the north and Carolina Beach Inlet to the south, limiting access to the island. Masonboro Island can be reached by boat only, and no vehicles are allowed on the island. There are no concessions at all; bring everything you will need.

What can I say......A couple of miles from Wilmington, and the wife and I have 8 miles of beach all to ourselves. Just add glass of wine, a sunset, and a nice breaze to keep the bugs away from our campsite.

Contrary to the info shown on your website regarding Masonboro Island, there is no city in North Carolina by the name of Masonboro. Closest communities are Carolina Beach and Wrightsville Beach, with Wilmington, NC being the only city nearby.
