Sandy Bay is located between Frisco and Hatteras, near the southwest end of Hatteras Island. Life in the small village of Hatteras is slower than the rest of the Outer Banks. Residents still make their living from the sea, or from the tourists who flock to the area. The village is surrounded by salt marsh and bisected by several creeks. The largest, called “The Slash,” will lead you downtown, crossing under NC–12. Farther north, Harbour Village Creek and Back Creek will take you through the residential section. It’s enjoyable to spend hours exploring this quaint village.
