The hike to Timberline Pass is the easiest way to experience broad expanses of alpine tundra in Rocky Mountain National Park. Perhaps the most notable feature of Rocky Mountain National Park is its wide area of easily accessible alpine tundra. “Tundra” is a Russian word for the land without trees covered by carpets of low-growing plants that exist in the vicinity of the Arctic Circle and above tree line. A perfect example of this simple-looking but complex environment completely surrounds the Ute Trail from Trail Ridge Road to Timberline Pass.
