For some years, a charity ride called “Summit to Surf” climbed up and around Mount Hood and then plunged down into the town of Hood River. It was one of my very favorite event rides; if you chose to add the tough Timberline Climb to the route, at the top they took your picture and gave you a medal. Cheesy? Yeah, well, I still have those medals somewhere.
