Visitors to Seattle are often wowed by the views, which can be spectacular, especially from the edge of the city’s downtown waterfront. But how many of them know that just around the south end of Elliott Bay lies another perspective on the city that is even more stunning? That’s one of the high points of this tour, which also connects to the Fauntleroy ferry terminal. The wide Alki Trail consists of a broad sidewalk path and generous bike lane, all with stunning downtown Seattle views. Begin at Jack Block Park, just west of Harbor Island. This Port of Seattle facility offers free parking, restrooms, and a great look at the container shipping operations on nearby Harbor Island. Join the trail heading north then west along Alki, and you will find numerous options for sticking your toes in the sand or stopping for snacks and drinks. The entire waterfront is public space, with green grass or sandy beach.
