Highlights: This ride has wonderful scenery and an outstanding descent down Foggy Dew Creek. That descent is fast, stupendously long, and easy, without being buffed completely smooth. In the fall Cooney Lake is surrounded by golden larch trees. Merchant Basin is as high as you can get on a bike in the North Cascades. If the high altitude and technical difficulties above the lake don’t entice you or your group, the ride to the lake and back is outstanding in its own right. Tread: All singletrack.
