This ride requires a lot of stamina and technical skill and is for strong mountain bikers. The route begins with a 9.6 mile ascent on gravel roads. One of the rewards for this is the view from Moon Point. The view is expansive and revealing. Diamond Peak, Sawtooth Mountain, and Dome Rock compete with huge clear-cuts for your attention. The next prize is a five-mile single-track descent on Youngs Rock Trail. It is riddled with tight switchbacks, extremely steep drops, and dangerous exposures. The roads are all in good condition, with the single-track in fairly good condition. The parking area for this route is approximately 20 miles southeast of Oakridge.

This is one of my favorite descents in the Oakridge area, and there are a lot of good ones. This singletrack feast combines steep, technical, switchbacks and fun, fast smooth pine needle surfaced trails. There are also great views of the cascades from Moon Point and Young's rock on the way down. Bring a camera and wear a helmet. I bit it pretty hard and broke my helmet and munched my shoulder. You can swim in the Willamette River after your ride.

Moon point is not for either the faint of heart or faint of lungs. The ride includes about a ten mile grind up a logging road, not too steep but a constant grade. On the way up, check out the wild rock formations. The descent has a lot of speed, a few little problems and some of the best open hillside meadows in the area. A great variety of forests with a touch of that 'central oregon' feel in an otherwise damp west side doug fir area. Grip it and rip it.
