The highlight of this 16-mile (total mileage) out-and-back is the imposing scenery along the scree sections of the Chikamin Tie Trail. A tough, no warm-up, singletrack climb through the trees starts the journey. The grade generally eases up as you get warmed up, though technical riding skills also come into play over roots and creeks in addition to the scree as you make your way through woods, rock formations, and views. Ease you way to Mad Lake through waves of gorgeous meadow. The trails are in good condition, though they get dusty with sun-exposure and use. Cinder-blocked sections firm up the trail and some water crossings. Rid over them for good traction and to keep the trails from eroding. An advanced ride with advanced scenery. Scenery: Entiat Mountains landscape of imposing scree, gorgeous meadows, rock formations, and Mad Lake.

We did this as an out and back ride, although it can be done as a loop. If done this way, it's all singletrack trail, and is generally in good condition. The scenery and views are awesome. The trail takes you back to Mad Lake, which gets very littel traffic, even during peak summer weekends. If you make it out here, I highly recommend that you explore some of the other trails in the region, including Chikamin Creek and Alder Ridge, both of which are nearby.
