A ride that travels a gravel road through a vast clear-cut wouldn't be too enticing in and of itself, and that's how this ride starts. But once on the singletrack, a moonscape view, nearly 360 degrees of beautiful scenery, and a fast, thrilling wooded descent make this 10.4-mile outing a "must-ride" loop. The ride is rated for strong intermediates, more for the technical climbing and descending on the trail than for the grade of the road climb. The steepest of the climbing comes when tires meet trail and you get into the trees. The initial trail section is soft, steep, and cupped, and will probably entail some dismounting. Once you ride (or hike) the initial 0.4 mile on the trail, you'll roll along the ridge, where rock outcroppings beckon you to stop and climb around; you can catch some good views from here, but the best is yet to come. After a short climb along the ridge, a beautiful moonscape holds both close-up and distant visual wonder. A dismount here is strongly recommended, because the ten-foot section that follows can be treacherous; bad things sometimes happen even to good riders, and bad, bad things -- like death -- will happen if you fall here. Walk it; you'll be happy to be alive to enjoy the incredible views and the descent still to come.

Fun loop that climbs on gravel/dirt road to the top of Lookout Mountain, which has awesome views of the Cascades. The decent is on singletrack that is steep in some sections. After putting so much energy into the climb, it's a shame that the singletrack is so steep. This would be a 5 star ride if it was a longer, less steep trail that would yield faster riding, rather than constant breaking. But still a fun ride.
