This is a favorite local ride in the Yacolt Burn State Forest in southwest Washington. The first half of the ride is steep and uneventful on a rough gravel road. But once you hit the singletrack trail, all of the gravel road riding is well worth it. The trail descends at a rapid pace, interspersed with bursts of intense hill climbing, through cool forest to a creek crossing at Stebbins Creek. Navigating switchbacks is the predominant theme in this mountainous terrain as you crank pedals and test your quads on a steep climb out of the creek canyon, and then you’ll enjoy more ups and downs on buff singletrack back to your starting point. Trail surface: 7.4 miles of singletrack; 9.5 miles of rough gravel road.
