The Northern Neck Cruise explores the quiet and picturesque peninsula nestled between the Potomac and Rappahannock rivers, two mighty tributaries of the Chesapeake Bay. Starting in the Westmoreland County seat of Montross, the cruise is an easy mix of flat to gentle rolling terrain and a delightful blend of natural beauty and historical interest. Cyclists can stop at the Westmoreland Berry Farm to pick or purchase fresh fruit, taste wines at the Ingleside Plantation Vineyards, tour Stratford Hall, one of America’s great houses of history and the home of Robert E. Lee, and in between, cruise past countless meticulously kept farms of wheat, soybeans, and corn. Back in Montross, a just reward is dinner and overnight stay at the beautiful 1790 The Inn at Montross. Terrain: Flat to gently rolling. No major climbs. A few short, steep hills.

This was a nice rural trail. It was a good long ride for a novice cyclist like myself. I have a couple updates for you though. On the "Directions" page in the full trail guide, take a look at the guidance at 36.2 miles - "Continue straight to stay on Stratford Hall Rd. at junction with Rt. 644." If you were to go straight, you would end up riding down Rt. 644. Stratford Hall Rd. actually makes a severe curve to the left at this point. Here would be a better way to word it - "Bear to the left to stay on Stratford Hall Rd. at junction with Rt. 644." "John Minor's Pub," which you mention in the trail guide, unfortunately closed down a couple of weeks ago. Thanks for the tips on the Berry Farm and State Park though. It was a great weekend! -Sean Verity
