The Silver Island Mountains Loop begins and ends on Northern #10: Wendover to Lucin Trail. This 49.4-mile trail makes a clockwise loop around the Silver Island Mountains and through a desert environment. As you drive along the remote and barren trail, keep an eye out for the old shoreline of Lake Bonneville, which is marked by an eroded line along the side of the mountains where ancient waves once lapped. Special Attractions: Easy but remote trail along the old shoreline of Lake Bonneville; Wonderful, unusual scenery, from the dead-flat desert and mud flats that were once the bottom of Lake Bonneville to the mountains that jut 6,000 feet skyward; Dozens of side trails to explore; Historic route of the Donner-Reed Party. This trail is graded dirt but suitable for a normal passenger vehicle. It usually has gentle grades, is fairly wide, and has very shallow water crossings (if any).
