You will be asked to pay the park entrance fee, so have your pass or money (fee for a bike and rider) ready when you start the ride. This route includes a continuous 1,500-foot climb up the Shafer Trail switchbacks and a continuous 1,900-foot descent down Long Canyon. rolling terrain means a fair amount of accumulated climbing in between the switchbacks. The route can be ridden in reverse direction. Either way the ride ends with a descent. Finishing with Long Canyon means that you end the ride immediately upon finishing the long descent. Descending the Shafer Rim and finishing with the ride on Potash Road means that you will descend and then have quite a bit of rolling terrain to negotiate before you return to the car. Trail Surface: Pavement, gravel, hardpacked and loose sediments, bedrock, and sand on maintained roads.
