Famous as a very challenging 4WD route (called "Metal Masher"), this area is rarely visited by mountain bikers. Containing just over 2,100 feet of accumulative climbing, occasional technical ledge-work, and a few exposed sections of trail, this ride is recommended only to strong riders with good skills. The trail is sometimes vague and this area is delicate, so be careful as you traverse the slickrock areas. Take a cell phone with you on this one. If you can see the La Sal Mountains the cell phone will work. Trail Surface: First on dirt road, then on a very technical 4WD track. Hardpack, loose rock, bedrock, slickrock, and sand on 4WD tracks. Lots of climbing. Dangerous downhill run on loose rock that surprises you with gnarly bedrock formations.
