This ride is a great way to experience Arches National Park on a mountain bike--a great ride for strong novices and intermediates, with only a bit of easily avoided technical challenge and plenty of mileage. It is perhaps the perfect first mountain bike ride for a strong road rider wishing to make the transition, but expect a lot of sand. You may have to pay to exit the park at the present Arches National Park entrance. Currently the fee is $10 for a car and $5 for a bicycle. At any point, if you encounter a ranger, you may be asked to provide proof of payment or you'll have to pay on the spot. Trail Surface: Broken pavement, gravel, loose rock, sand, hardpack, and slickrock.

Not my favorite, actually not a good ride at all long exhausting, and pretty much all uphill. Once you get to Balanced Rock after battling 4X4's, Jeeps's and motorcycles its downhill on pavement and you have to fight cars, motor homes, trucks pulling trailers, this ride is pretty dangerous with all the traffic you encounter. If you drove to the Balanced Rock and did it in reverse to the the start of the trail posted here with a shuttle it would be decent. If you choose this trail long sustained uphill and no downhill until the pavement and then traffic traffic and no shoulder to ride be carefull. But it is pretty.
