Inquire locally about the best intermediate-level mountain bike ride in Salt Lake, and the Big Water Trail to Dog Lake will be the unchallenged response. Newbies, veterans, locals, and visitors alike will rave about Big Water’s smooth-rolling tread and evenly pitched grade. The alpine pond at the trail’s end is perfect for wallowing away the afternoon under a shady tree or basking in the warm midday sun. You won’t find jaw-dropping vistas of jagged peaks or glacially carved canyons on Big Water because the trail is tightly embraced by pristine aspens and conifers underlain by thick brush and showy wildflowers. It’s a short ride, but it’s so sweet. Trail surface: All singletrack.
