A whole series of lakes nestles into this extra long valley. Snowcapped mountains stand guard on both sides, providing the observant traveler with changing panoramic views. The numerous lakes and a lack of wind make this a popular destination for those with water-related recreational equipment. At times, however, the noise level gets quite high. Wildlife is plentiful; in fact, the local deer often browse in the campgrounds on their way for a drink of water or a resting place. Do keep in mind that they cross highways without warning and sometimes even seem to be intent on committing suicide. A slower rate of travel, especially just after sunrise and just before sunset, will reduce the number of fatalities. This eTrail contains detailed descriptions of the following campgrounds: Russel Gates Memorial, Salmon Lake State Park, River Point, Seeley Lake, Big Larch, Placid Lake State Park, Lake Alva, Holland Lake, Cedar Creek, Soup Creek, Point Pleasant, and Swan Lake.
