The scenic Kim Williams Trail runs along the Clark Fork River, joining this ride with Missoula’s urban trail system. Wildflowers and wildlife reside on the backside of Mount Sentinel, which continues to regenerate following extensive logging by Champion Timber Company. The winding climb affords views of the clear-cut, burnt, and pristine forest sections that form the land matrix throughout the region. Pattee Canyon Recreation Area draws a wide range of recreationists and offers excellent picnic spots and shaded areas for resting following the climb, as well as additional cycling loops. Coming down the blacktop provides its own rush, although traffic concerns call for caution. Tread: Primarily gravel and logging roads with a brief section of singletrack.
