This is a nice little trail that gives you another taste of great autumn colors; maple, aspen, and sumac mix with pine along the route and on the shores of adjacent lakes. The end of the main road allows access to the Boundary Waters. Fenske Lake Campground extends all of the best qualities of the northwoods. It’s a beautiful place with huge white pines and several stunning campsites on the shores of Fenske Lake. I was fortunate enough to hear the ghostly howls of a large pack of timber wolves the night I was there. Speaking of wolves, be sure to visit the International Wolf Center in Ely for everything you always wanted to know about those beasts and get permits and details for the BWCA and adjacent lands. Tread: Maintained and primitive forest road.
