This little loop keeps you on your toes and is fun, with several changes in tread type. The route starts on tame gravel road, then gradually narrows to a more primitive path, and at the end there’s even pavement! It doesn’t take long to delve deep into the woods, and there were several herds of deer when I went through. A couple of spur trails offer expanded mileage, and the back half of the loop has a few steeper rollers to give you a light taste of climbing. The return trip on the highway is smooth as silk, but watch for traffic. McDougal Lakes Campground is close by for some scenic northwoods camping. Tread: Gravel and primitive forest road and paved highway.
