I did this trail one-way from Hogback Lake to Isabella. It’s a great ride on an excellent road, and the sights along the way are fabulous. A cluster of lakes halfway through provide a nice diversion (or even a chance to cool off), and it’s worth stopping at the Laurentian Divide marker to learn some cool geologic stuff. The Divide separates watersheds flowing north to the Arctic Ocean and east to the Atlantic. It also splits a third time, directing more water south to the Gulf of Mexico. The ridge along this road is a couple of billion years old. After passing the Divide, the trail rolls up and down gently and deposits you on the highway at Isabella. There are four or five spur trails and roads along the route (as usual) that can take you to more isolated parts of the forest. Tread: Smooth gravel forest road.
