Okay, so it’s not a huge mountain by any means, but Buck Hill provides some fine riding close to home. The switchback climb up to the summit will stretch your legs on loose gravel and larger rocks, but the fun stuff is in the woods at the northern end of the hill. The trails are marked fairly well, but after awhile I just rode around and explored the numerous loops and spur trails hidden in the trees. The woods trails are maintained well, and the elevation change makes for an all-around great ride. Local bike store Penn Cycle holds BMX and cross-country races here every Thursday starting in May, or you can compete at Erik’s Spring Cup. The area is open for riding Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M. through August. Tread: Wide gravel trail and hard-packed singletrack.
